Marike Jager - Focus (TV version)

A video clip I made for Marike Jager in the fall of 2005. The Marike desert and forest scenes were shot in Soest, the Netherlands, in pouring rain. It was like being in a rainforest. After the forest scenes were done, we moved onto the sandy dunes where she performed Focus twice for the camera. The idea was to bring the band to the dunes and use the solo perfomance exclusively as a guide during editing. As it turned out, there was a raw energy to the solo perfomances, something you can only get under conditions like that, alone in the cold rain with your guitar.

The cafe scenes and the blue screen footage was shot in Amsterdam.This version of the clip was made with TV in mind. There is also a slightly longer version made with DVD or other media in mind.
