BLACK SAND
Standing by the road, frustrated by the broken down car, Emily sees lights in the distance. A car is approaching. Just as well. She had been driving in the mountains when her car gave up. No way of knowing when the next car would pass. She has no idea that the man in the approaching car is her destiny. If only she had stayed out of the way...
Black Sand was shot in Iceland in August 2006. The film is 24 minutes long. Much of it takes place in the present, but there are scenes going back through the centuries. It was shot in Reykjavik and on various rural locations Iceland. The language of the film is Icelandic, but the DVD contains English and Dutch subtitles. Shooting took just over two weeks.
The story is roughly as follows:
A young woman gets hit by a car. Although she and the driver have never met, they know that there is more to this incident than mere chance. They know, from the first moment, that there is a strong connection between them, bonds that go further back than they can remember. However, something doesn’t seem right and they start suspecting that whatever ties them together may be lost forever.
The film is ready and is currently being submitted to festivals. The DVD is available here.
